HomeRemembering Helen Galt

Elegant leader. Visionary DEI Champion. Inspiring Mentor and Sponsor.

The Actuarial Foundation’s Board of Trustees is privileged to honor Helen Galt for her enduring commitment to our mission of enhancing math education and financial literacy through the talents and resources of actuaries. Helen was a trailblazer and mentor for all women who entered the actuarial profession at a time when there were very few women in the field. She was a pioneer for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, a prominent catalyst and an active force for change and impact in the insurance industry. She joined The Actuarial Foundation’s Board of Trustees in 2012 and immediately began serving on the Foundation’s Actuarial Diversity Scholarship Committee and the Student Achievement Committee. She served as Board Chair in 2015 and was instrumental in creating and leading an in-depth evaluation of the Foundation’s program areas in order to advance the Foundation’s mission and determine its future direction.

In keeping with Helen’s generous spirit and commitment to the work of the Foundation, our Board of Trustees unanimously approved changing the name of the Modeling the Future Challenge Educator Award to the Helen Galt Educator Award. Educators chosen for this award are a select group of teachers skilled at helping students understand the MTFC Actuarial Process - the fundamental framework upon which the Modeling the Future Challenge is built. These educators help engage students in mathematics and computer science curriculum through real-world data-science and risk analysis projects.

We appreciate Prudential Financial's generous contribution to the Helen Galt Educator Award.
