Actuaries have long been recognized for their voluntary service, dedication, willingness to help others and spirit of professional unity. It is this history of service, coupled with the unique gifts actuaries offer to society, which forms the core of The Actuarial Foundation – the only U.S. philanthropic organization representing the actuarial profession.
Case for Support
THE CASE FOR SUPPORT OF THE ACTUARIAL FOUNDATION
Changing Lives with Math Education and Financial Literacy
For almost 25 years, the Actuarial Foundation has led the way in creating quality education initiatives for the public. Through the unique talents of actuaries, the Foundation has developed and provided resources to the general public and to students of all ages. These resources give people valuable knowledge and insight to empower them to make more informed decisions. In addition, our curriculum resources are giving teachers and students new reasons to be excited and confident about mathematics. Our competitions are providing a glimpse into the world of an actuary for high school students. Scholarships are encouraging the best and brightest college students to enter the actuarial profession.
Mission & Impact
The mission of The Actuarial Foundation is to enhance math education and financial literacy through the talents and resources of actuaries. The Foundation supports this mission by providing free math education and financial literacy resources, learning tools and scholarships to change lives and promote lifelong math education.
Established in 1994, The Actuarial Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of experienced actuaries and other professionals who continually guide the Foundation in developing financial resources and educational materials produced in partnership with Scholastic Inc. and offering a variety of scholarships for actuarial students.
To date, more than 15 million U.S. students have used our free math education resources.
The Foundation encourages mathematical thinkers by creating and distributing educational materials to teachers and students in grades 4-12. These free resources include hands-on projects, lesson plans and online activities that cover a variety of mathematical topics and financial literacy themes.
Now more than ever, it is critical to show the world that math matters, to promote the importance of math education and financial literacy, and to allow actuaries to teach others about their profession and inspire the next generation of math-skilled thinkers. The Actuarial Foundation is paving the way for these efforts and the success of continued fundraising efforts constitutes an important next step.
Your investment is vital to help improve young people’s chances to meet their potential and make real contributions to their communities.
From undergraduates to career-changers, from the disadvantaged to the gifted, the Foundation changes lives through math education, promotes the actuarial profession and cultivates the next generation of actuaries through its scholarship programs.
The Actuarial Diversity Scholarship, the Actuary of Tomorrow – Stuart A. Robertson Memorial Scholarship, the Curtis E. Huntington Memorial Scholarship and the Caribbean Actuarial Scholarship have awarded students pursuing studies in math and actuarial science with 500 scholarships worth $1,135,250, while the Actuary – A Career Change: Elizabeth M.
