Prosperity Heights Elementary School The Advancing Student Achievement (ASA) program at Prosperity Heights Elementary School, St. Paul, MN, continues through The Actuarial Foundation. This mentoring opportunity will allow you to: Work with students: Prosperity Heights is a small neighborhood school located on the east side of St. Paul. Students attending Prosperity Heights live within a mile of the school making it unique among the St. Paul public schools. This close knit school community offers top quality individualized education and values mentoring for its students. Witness an innovation: On Thursday afternoons, students participate in a Chess Club with actuaries who are trained as chess mentors. The Chess Club was developed to help students build reasoning and critical thinking skills. Chess has been proven to improve math and academic performance and is even part of school curriculums in Canada. Special emphasis will be placed on improving math skills. Remaining after school to participate in a chess club in a structured environment will provide these students a chance to have fun while learning. Work in a fun environment: Actuarial mentors connecting with elementary school students in a fun environment such as the Chess Club at Prosperity Heights Elementary School will enable them to demonstrate significant growth and progress in mathematical understanding and problem solving skills.
