Echo Mountain Elementary School

The Actuarial Foundation's Advancing Student Achievement (ASA) mentoring program continues at Echo Mountain Elementary School.

Mentoring opportunities will allow you to:

Work with kids: Actuary mentors will work alongside the classroom teachers to help kids learn important math topics such as probability, money problem solving, measurement, goemetry, combinations, and map coloring.

Witness innovation: Mathematics for Life: Meaningful Math Learning Through Monthly Math Academies at Echo Mountain is a dynamic math academy program, which allows students to discover and apply mathematical concepts which affect their daily lives currently and in the future. Actuarial mentors work with children in small groups on math activities related to that day’s theme. On career day, the actuaries involve children in demonstrations for how math is used in the workplace.

Work in a creative environment: Actuarial mentors connecting with Echo students in a fun environment such as the math academies will enable them to demonstrate significant growth and progress in mathematical understanding and problem solving skills. After the first year of this program a math teacher said: “The student enthusiasm for and success in mathematics was tremendous, not to mention the increase in state test scores!”
