The Actuarial Foundation’s Advancing Student Achievement (ASA) program continues at Conder Elementary School in Columbia, SC.

Mentoring opportunities allow you to:

Work with students: Work with fourth and fifth grade students in a program designed to promote math achievement, appreciation and excitement!

Participate in innovation: Mentors will work with students in the MAGIC (Math And Games Integrated Curriculum) program using math games and manipulatives like ‘Everyday Math, Measure Works, and ETA Cuisenaire rods’. Mentors can volunteer once a week, or once a month, whatever fits their schedule! The program will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15 - 4:15 pm.

Work in a fun environment: Mentors will attend an orientation session in which they would be introduced to the principal, math coach and fourth and fifth grade teachers. The role of the mentor is to clarify misconceptions, guide students’ problem solving strategies, and to provide support.
