BECOME A MENTOR
SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO MAKE OTHERS GROW!

Boulevard Elementary School
Cleveland Heights, Ohio

The Actuarial Foundation’s Advancing Student Achievement (ASA) mentoring program continues at Boulevard Elementary School.

Mentoring opportunities will allow you to:

Work with students: Share your expertise and understanding of various levels of math with students from grades 2-5. Students and mentors will work with individuals as well as in small groups.

Participate in innovation: Boulevard Elementary has created a program called On the Road with HIP Math which consists of a variety of math activities such as “First in Math”, an online internet based program, “Kaleidoscope Club” which reviews the algebra and geometry of the working kaleidoscope, and the “Duct Tape Club” which discusses the mathematics behind creating Duct Tape animals.  Math Trails are activities designed for gifted students to allow them to discover and learn about the math that exists in their own environments and HIP Community Math Trips will incorporate field trips into the learning as students visit businesses in their community to discover the ways math is used in everyday life.

Work in a fun environment: Mentoring at Boulevard Elementary is fun and flexible. Orientation to the school and working with students is provided by school staff to all mentors.  The programs have been designed to allow actuaries to work within their busy schedules. Programs are held during lunch periods and after school hours.

How to Volunteer: For more information about becoming a mentor, please contact the Lead Actuary for this program, Gary Traicoff at gary_traicoff@progressive.com or 440.395.9896.
