Pension Plan Terminations in Ontario Since 1988 (RP102) – While analyzing pension plan terminations in Ontario, the study focused on the prevalence of plan terminations, the causes, and to identify the impact of plan participants.

Turnover and Retirement Rates (RP104) – The Health and Pension Sections of the SOA created a pension plan turnover table to help calculate benefit costs for employee-based pension and retiree medical plans.

Macro Demographic Model Feasibility Study (RP105) – The report, “Models for Retirement Policy Analysis,” describes existing models and data sources for projecting the effects of changes in environment on the design and cost of retirement benefit plans.

The RP-2000 Mortality Tables (RP106) – This report presents the RP-2000 Mortality Tables, which were developed by the Retirement Plans Experience Committee (RPEC) from data contributed by uninsured private U.S. pension plans. The database used for this study reflects nearly 11 million life-years of exposure and more than 190,000 deaths primarily from plan years 1990 through 1994.

Safest Annuity Rule (RP108) – The purpose of the project was to assess the impact of DOL Interpretive Bulletin No. 95-I on the annuity market.

Asset Valuation Methods (RP109) – The project surveyed pension section members to improve actuarial practice in the determination of the actuarial value of assets in pension plan valuations for funding and accounting purposes.

Actuarial Aspects of Cash Balance Plans (RP114) – The study provides the actuarial profession with a review of the actuarial aspects of cash balance retirement plans and original actuarial research regarding the design and valuation of such plans.

Retirement Needs Framework (RP116) – The symposium brought together a diverse group of individuals who integrated their ideas regarding the period just after retirement and to plan for better modeling and development of retiree needs.

Asset Valuation Phase 2 (RP117) – This was an effort to follow-up on the Asset Valuation Methods Survey. The project assesses the effectiveness of various asset valuation methods for achieving plan sponsor goals. The papers were presented in the August 2001, Volume 13, No. 1 and the September 2002, Volume 14, No. 1 issues of the Pension Forum.

Multivariate Analysis of Pension Plan Mortality Data (RP118) – Using data collected by the Retirement Plans Experience Committee from private pension plans for 1989–1995, the authors examine the data by using the logistic regression model.

Cash Balance Call for Papers (RP122) – This call for papers focused primarily on the funding, design, and communication issues related to cash balance plans. The papers were presented at the SOA 2001 Dallas Spring Meeting and were published in Cash Balance Symposium Monograph.

Retirement Implications of Demographic and Family Change (RIDFC) (RP123) – This call for papers examined the broader implications on the workplace of the changing workforce and the retirement needs of the public in light of the increase in divorce, the increase in two earner households, phased retirement, and the aging of baby boomers. The papers were presented at a symposium held at the SOA 2002 San Francisco Spring Meeting from which the SOA monograph, Retirement Implications of Demographic and Family Change Symposium was published.

Factors Affecting Retirement Mortality (FARM) (RP124) – This investigation probed the impact on annuitant mortality of various risk characteristics, such as education and income.

Retirement Risk Survey (RP125) – The survey conducted by Mathew Greenwald & Associates in association with the Employee Benefits Research Institute (EBRI) assesses the attitudes of pre-retired and retired persons toward various post-retirement financial risks. 

30 Year Treasury Rates and Defined Benefit Pension Plans (RP127 & RP130) – The project identifies one or more indices designed to approximate the interest component underlying annuity rates that might be found in “close out” quotations for a terminating plan.

Deferred Retirement Options Programs (DROPs) (RP129) – The monograph, Design and Actuarial Aspects of Deferred Retirement Options Programs provides actuaries with an understanding of the design and planning issues associated with DROPs plans.

Factors Affecting Retirement Mortality-Phase 2 (RP132) – This multi-phased project probes the impact on annuitant mortality of various risk characteristics, such as education and income.

Pension Payout Options and Choices of Married Retirees (RP136) – The project examined survey data on the payout choices made by married retirees in regards to single life vs. joint and survivor options as well as the impact of lump sums.
