Completed Life Experience Studies

1997-98 Reinsurance Mortality Study (LO113) Manulife Reinsurance and the Reinsurance Section Council of the Society of Actuaries perform an annual study of mortality experience on large amounts and older age policies. An article is being prepared for the Reinsurance Section Newsletter.

Blood Pressure Study (LX123) The Elevated Blood Pressure Study examines the mortality experience of recently ssued life insurance policies that had an identified elevated blood pressure. The study is published in On The Risk, Volume 19, Number 1, March 20

Alcohol Abuse & Liver Enzyme Study (LX131) – The Alcohol Abuse and Liver Enzyme Study similarly examined cases with admitted alcohol abuse or with an abnormal liver enzyme test. 

Mortality Improvement (LX134) This survey examines the use of mortality improvement in the life insurance product development process.

Older Age Underwriting Practices Survey (LX135) The Society of Actuaries’ Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys has completed this report, which investigates how underwriting practices differ for the older age insurance market. This report can be found on the SOA web site.

Technology (LX141) – This survey examined the use of computer technology for mortality studies and underwriting. (Contact: Jeff Marks) This report can be found on the SOA Web Site.

Regulation XXX Survey (LX142) The Society of Actuaries’ Committee on Life Insurance Mortality and Underwriting Surveys has completed this report, which examines the early responses, including pricing methodologies, to the Regulation XXX term reserving requirements. There were 58 respondents to the survey, including a few reinsurers. This report can be found on the SOA web site.
