Los Angeles, CA
Grant: $19,120
LACES is already a high-achieving school, however, the mathematics department is committed to building a mathematics program so strong and inviting that a large percentage of students-perhaps even every student-could be prepared to successfully complete challenging mathematics courses. The Calculus Camp, which takes place in the San Gabriel Mountains north of Los Angeles over a four day weekend, with the help of volunteer actuarial mentors, is hoping to achieve this goal.
The camp provides a unique opportunity for interaction among students and actuarial mentors to work together on practice problems to prepare for their AP Calculus exams. The confidence that the students gain from this intense immersion in the subject matter will be of immense benefit to them as they go it alone on their exam. |
