The Anderson High School innovative math learning program exposes students to the career of being an actuary by having actuaries work with students on three activities. The first activity is to work with the Shake, Rattle and Roll (SRR) program to develop calculator-based activities that expand the SRR program to more in depth investigations for high school students. The second activity is a weeklong project where students do a risk assessment project that ties together the four major concepts of AP Statistics (organizing Data, producing Data, Provability and Inference). In the second year of the program, students will create video pod casts to demonstrate what they have learned.
The Actuarial Foundation mentors will help our students bridge the gap between school and the real world. They expand and implement the SRR program, to help design a week-long project to assess risk and to help students design and tape demonstrations. |
