Douglas C. Borton
Douglas C. Borton retired early from Buck Consultants, New York in 1986 where he specialized in the design and funding of large retirement programs. During his 30 years at Buck, Mr. Borton occupied various executive positions including the Office of the President, Chief Actuary, Corporate Secretary and Chairman of Buck (Canada) Ltd. Before joining Buck he was employed in the actuarial department of The Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, NJ.
Mr. Borton is Chairman of the Board of Actuaries of the U.S. Civil Service Retirement System, Editor of The Consulting Actuary, Book Reviewer of the Actuarial Digest, a Director and former Chairman of the Actuarial Education and Research Fund, and a former Steering Committee member of the American Pension Conference.
Mr. Borton is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Conference of Consulting Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He is also a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. Mr. Borton has served on the Boards of Directors of the Conference and Academy, as well as on the Advisory Committee on Actuarial Examinations of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. In 1994 the Academy honored Mr. Borton with its annual Jarvis Farley Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the actuarial profession.
Mr. Borton is a member of the Society's Committee on Retirement Systems Professional Education and Development and its Committee on Knowledge Extension Research, as well as the Conference's Membership Committee. He also serves as a Facilitator for the Society's Fellowship Admission and Associateship Professionalism Courses.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Borton graduated magna cum laude from Colby College, Waterville, ME where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a member of The Economic Club of New York. a former Trustee of the Ranney School, Tinton Falls, NJ and a Certified Financial Planner.
Mr. Borton resides in Spring Lake, NJ with his wife the former Doris Ann Kleen. Their son Douglas is a mystery and suspense novelist writing under the names Brian Harper and Michael Prescott.
Mr. Borton is a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, and Belmar Fishing Club.
